Alfred Peter Gillio, Jr. passed away on July 30, 2009 at his home in Virginia Beach surrounded by his adoring family. He was born in Richmond, Virginia on November 29, 1929. He was predeceased by his father, Alfred Peter Gillio Sr.; his mother, Rena Carroll Gillio and his sister, Betty Fox. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Phyllis Payne Gillio; his sisters, Barbara Cawthorne and Ellen Sherman of Richmond; his son, Dr. Alfred Peter Gillio III of New York City and his companion Paul Bernstein; his daughter and son-in-law, Joy and John Baiocco of Chesapeake, and three wonderful grandsons, Patrick, Peter and Christopher Baiocco; plus many cousins and nephews.
Alfred served in the U.S. Army and operated a tile and marble distributorship in Norfolk for over 30 years. After retirement, he worked for the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office for 12 years as a part time security officer. The family wishes to thank his doctors, Heartland Hospice and Charles Powell and Gardinia Davenport for their expert care and compassion.
Memorial services will be held at Star of the Sea Catholic Church located at 1404 Pacific Avenue on Friday, July 3lst at 7:00pm.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Virginia Beach Sheriff Department’s Drug Abuse Resistance Education program DARE at 2501 James Madison Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA 23456, or the American Cancer Society.
Cremation Society of Virginia, Hampton Roads office, is assisting the family.
